Applying shingles to the roof of doll house

Any type of shingles can be used to decorate the roof of your doll house. Measure the length of the roof and properly calculate the total numbers of shingles required to complete the project.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: More than three hours.

Here's How:

  • Shingles of octagon, square or fishscale can be used to decorate the roof of your dream doll house. You can calculate the total number of shingles to be used by measuring the total square inches of the roof. Now the question can be asked that how to measure the total square inches of the roof? It’s very simple- multiply the width with length of each room section and finally add these measurements.
  • If you desire darker shingles, apply an oil base stain on them that can be done in many ways. Once you have applied stain on it, allow 24 hours to dry.
  • Be sure to paint or stain the edges of the roof before you shingle. This step is necessary even though you are going to put trim around the edge. Before you begin to shingle, we will suggest that you put the trim around the edge of the roof.
  • One of the most important aspects of applying shingles is to have the proper tools.
  • Always start form the bottom edge of the roof.

Tips:

  • If you want to paint the shingles, paint both sides and edges of the shingles.
  • Apply varnish with a polyurethane varnish in order to achieve a finish that can be wiped with a damp cloth.
  • Always buy enough packages of shingles to complete the project.
  • Be precise while cutting the shingles.
